The Peter F. Smith & Kathy Brown Memorial Scholarships
UBI Federal Credit Union accepts applications for the Peter F. Smith & Kathy Brown Memorial Scholarship annually. Two $1,000.00 scholarships are awarded based on academics as well as community, school and voluntary activities.
Applications are acceepted from Monday, March 2nd, to Friday, April 3rd.
The winners will be notified by Friday, April 10th.
Application Procedures:
- Complete the scholarship application.
- Include a personal letter to the scholarship committee telling them a little about yourself.
- Include a letter of recommendation:
- If you are a student, the letter must be from a teacher or guidance counselor or supervisor.
- If you are a working adult, the letter must be from your employer, supervisor or community member.
Application Due Date:
- Applications are available on or near the 1st of March.
- Applications must be received by April 3rd.
Applicant Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a UBI Federal Credit Union member in good standing (joint members not qualified).
- Be a high school graduate in 2025 (or before) and have at least a 2.5 GPA. Verification from your high school to be included.
- Attend or accepted into an accredited college, university or vocational school.
- Submit an essay. The essay can be in written form (no more than 500 words) or a YouTube video, not longer than two minutes and should answer one of the following questions:
- A well-known magazine just released its next issue and your picture is on the cover! An article inside the magazine goes into detail about what you have done to receive this honor. For this essay question, name the magazine on which your picture has appeared and write the contents of the article explaining your achievements.
- As you near the end of your high school years, you have had the opportunity to observe and participate in many school related activities and events. Looking back on these experiences, if you could be the principal of your High School for one day – What would you do to make a difference in you and your fellow student's lives?
- Which of the following programs would you fund if you had the authority within the federal government to do so and why? Please choose only one of the following and explain the reason(s) behind your choice:
- A massive public health program that would assist in increasing our average life expectancy by two years.
- An overhaul of our educational system that would make our public schools the best in the world?
- A housing program that would give everyone an adequate and affordable place to live?
- If you could become a cartoon character or a superhero, which specific character or superhero would you choose to be and why?
This award must be used for educational purposes.
