Should I take special steps to ensure security of my personal information?
You should always take precautions to safeguard your personal banking information, both online and off. There are a few things you can do to make your online banking experience safer.

Internet browsers cache (store) information from recently viewed web pages, we suggest that you make sure to close your browser when you are finished with your financial transactions.

Some browsers cache pages that are viewed during secured connections to the PC’s hard drive. This can make it possible to view account information after you have closed the session. Your PIN can never be obtained from this, but anything you viewed, such as account balances, may be viewed later. We recommend that you clear your disk and memory cache often.

You should use caution when accessing secured sites like Internet banking over the Internet from a public computer. It would probably be best to avoid using public computers in places such as libraries and universities to access personal, financial information.

We discourage the usage of the "saved password" option on various browsers if there is any chance that someone else could gain unauthorized access to your machine. Remember to logoff after using HomeTech, clear disk/memory cache, and close/exit your browser when leaving your computer.

When I print my account transaction history, I find it is too wide for the printed page. What can I do?
The width of the statement form slightly exceeds the default margin settings in Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer (which generally default to 0.75 inches each for the left and right margin). If you alter the left and right margin settings (FILE --> PAGE SETUP) to 0.25 inches this should allow the account history to fit to a single page.

Access
When I attempt to log-in using my HomeTech ID and PIN, it states that my account is currently locked. Why?
This occurs when an ID or PIN is entered incorrectly three consecutive times, which causes your account to be locked for a 24-hour period. If you have forgotten your HomeTech ID or PIN, e-mail us at davew@ubifcu.com or jend@ubifcu.com so that we may unlock your account and reset your PIN. This would enable you to log on and change your PIN to one that is easier to remember.
Note: A UBIFCU representative will never ask for your PIN.

Why does HomeTech use "cookies?"
HomeTech, developed by Jack Henry and Associates as NetTeller, uses "cookies" to keep track of a user's session. When a user logs into HomeTech, the website sends three "cookies" to his computer. The first two act as a laundry claim-check; they are merely sequenetially assigned numbers. The third is a large random string that allows us to verify that someone isn't trying to impersonate a legitimate user by guessing the value of the first two "cookies." The "cookies" are only valid for one session; each time users logs in, they receive a new set of cookies. We use the /cookies/ to ensure that the user has entered a valid HomeTech ID and PIN, and to ensure that the user's session hasn't timed-out.
The use of "cookies" also allows us to speed up HomeTech by temporarily storing some user information in our web server's memory. Accessing the user's information in memory is much faster than having to retrieve it from the host or from a database every time it is needed. When the user logs off or the session times out, the information held in memory is discarded.
It is possible to create a website like HomeTech without using cookies. However, the security aspects of such a site would be much more obvious to the user and, therefore, less secure. We feel that requiring cookies in HomeTech is a small price to pay for the added security and improved user experience!
